Something for Jenna!

My friend, Jenna is having a baby shower tomorrow for her baby boy and I don't get to be there! :( So, I had to share what I made her!

Everyone needs a car seat tent! I wish I had one when Sydney was born. I would just use a blanket and it would always fly off or wasn't big enough! This one straps to the handles so when the wind blows it won't fly away. You can keep the sun out and especially the GERMS!!!

I hope she likes it! Can't wait to meet the little guy Jenna!!

Something to keep the head warm...

It was a bit chilly last week with some rain and now that's it's cold I feel like crocheting again! I whipped up a beanie for my baby and since I was making a trip to Utah to visit my new niece I decided she needed something to keep her little head warm. These little beanies only take a day to make--or two hours of T.V. watching. The little one went quicker. Now each of my kids want a bikini (my 6 year old got confused!) Too funny!Oh, and I taught some of my lovely friends how to make a skirt like this. Super easy and very quick!

Next... Halloween costumes and quick. Kids have a carnival on Thursday and I still need to finish Morgan's costume!

Gettin' Fall Crafty!

I guess the leaves changing colors and starting to fall, put me in the mood to do some Fall projects. I love all the colors of Fall. The browns, greens and orange. I made the above wall hanging in a day and a half. I found this super cute fabric on Ebay! It's from Moda Fabric and it's the Gobble Gobble line. I only had one charm pack to work with so I came up with this. I still have a few scraps left over and my mind is already thinking..... I found the pictures in my kids coloring books and I googled Fall clip on the internet and the writing is my own. I had fun with this one! (after I took the picture I noticed how crooked it is--- I fixed it! )

Next:

I saw these wood pumpkins on the Ucreate blog. I thought they were super cute and the best part---- it was all FREEEEEE!!
I went out to the scrap pile that we have on the side of the house and found some wood. I marked it with lines to have my hubby cut them for me.... Two weeks later.... I took matters into my own hands and got the circular saw out and did it myself. Paint, a branch from the dead tree out front and some green plaid fabric! I'm thinking it needs something like raffia, but I keep forgetting to buy it whenever I'm out.

Now it's back to my quilt that I'm doing with the quilt along, just need to do the sashing, back, quilt and binding.....maybe after Christmas it will be done! :)

First Quilt Along!

I decided to do a quilt along with a blog that I read.(crazy mom quilts) My first quilt along and so far so good. All I had to do for 72 days was make one nine patch everyday. Of course, life gets in the way so most times I did 5 at a time or whatever. But, I'm done and here's my 72 nine patch squares. I finished before the quilt along is done so I'm waiting for the next step. I'm so excited because I love the completed quilt! All of these squares are made of my scraps. It felt good to be using what I had but also feels like I didn't make much of a dent.

I will keep you posted on the next steps and will show the finished project. Crazy that almost 72 days have gone by....

Placemat Purses

I used to make my placemat purse like the one above, with the ribbon wrapped all the way around. Very cute and very simple. Then I made one like this:

and decided I like this one much better! How cute is that?

They are easy and hardly take any time. These two placemats are really thick and had a bit of a stiffness to them. But they worked out. I still need to find something to go on the pink one, I was just using stuff that I already had. Who said placemats are just to eat on?

I think I may have figured out a problem that I have.

If I have a project that takes too much time--I get bored with it and don't want to finish it.

Then I find something like this to make... and I'm happy! (why is this underlined?)

Not sure if Morgan will even wear hers (I was just using what ribbon I had in my stash) Sydney of course will wear hers and I'm going to make more. They were super easy and took less than 10 minutes for each pair. Even thought about doing my own... then thought again!

From Aunt Jenn

Today my sister, Aimilee is having her baby shower in Utah and I don't get to be there. Boo hoo!
I made this quilt for my little niece who will be joining us at the end of September.

Hope she likes it!

I also made her a car seat tent and totally forgot to take a picture! (maybe Aimilee will take one for me!) It was super cute and I hope it works because she has a car seat that has a z handle thing going on and I didn't have one to use to figure out where the straps should go!

Another...

This blanket was so easy and fun to make!! I guess they call it a rag quilt (even though I did not use one single rag...) It turned out a lot bigger than what I was planning for. I was going for a baby blanket but ended up with a kid size blanket. No worries though-- I'm sure it will find itself a great home. I used whatever flannels I had. I was able to shrink my stack by a lot and make room for some more!! :)

I already have the next one cut out with smaller squares and ready to be sewed. It's for a little boy and I've already got in mind who it's for.

Ragged Quilt

It's done! I love this quilt and it was a lot of fun to make.
All you need to make this quilt is:
9 inch squares in different colors
6 inch squares in different colors
3 inch squares in different colors
Sew them on top of each other with raw edges on the outside.
After all the blocks are sewn together and your rows are attached
it's quilting time. With a walking foot quilt around each square, so three quilt squares on each block. (plus the two stitch lines when you sewed the squares together)
batting, back and binding is next.
Then wash and clean up the strings a bit and you are done.

If this did not make sense at all.... Let me know and I'll do a step by step tutorial! :)

I also finished my sisters baby blanket but can't post that till after Saturday! Don't want her getting a sneak peak!

I'm back and I'm busy! Nothing to post yet but will soon enough!

I took my sewing machine in today to get a tune-up. I bought the warranty and two free service check-ups. I thought I should probably use them since they expire soon. The reason I haven't taken it in? What am I going to use in the meantime? Well, since I'm going out of town for a few days I figured I wouldn't be needing it right now anyway!! I took it in and the man took it into the back and came back with my info and said that it would be ready in a WEEK to TWO weeks! I almost fell over and threw a tantrum! What in the world am I going to do with out my favorite machine...

One Little Skirt

A little skirt for a little lady! This skirt was so easy to make. I used the leftover fabric from my apron and made it in less than 30 minutes. I think she'll be getting lots of these made for her!

What's cookin?

The other night I took Morgan to Joanns with me and we picked out a project that we could do together. (okay, so I did most of the work!!) We picked something easy and she had fun picking out the fabric. What do you think? Of course had to make one for myself. I made mine a little different. Morgan's I hemmed all the way around so it was a single piece of material. Mine I doubled the fabric to make it thicker. I put two right sides together, sewed it and then turned inside out.(after I had attached the belts and neck strap.) It was actually easier so when I make more it will be nice and fast.
Will I wear it I wonder? Sure.... when I do all that cooking I'm famous for...ha

Table Runner!

I found this table runner pattern in (again) the Quilts and More magazine. I found most of the material at Wal-Mart in a packet of fat quarters, the rest was from my scraps. Love using scraps!!! I even quilted it and tried to be fancy and quilt stars on it-- they turned out terrible (needs more work) so I didn't do very many. I just might have to make one for other holidays.

Laptop bag

I found this pattern in the Quilts and More magazine. It's a bag for a laptop. Every laptop needs some lovin' right? It was pretty easy- alittle tricky at some spots but now I know for next time. I got to try out my new darning foot and quilted the whole thing. It takes a lot of time and I think I'll need lots more practice to get the stitches nice and even. You can't sew fast and you can't move the fabric fast or the stitches jump.

Pretty fun though. Now I can take my laptop in a cute bag--you know, to the next room!

Projects, Projects, Projects!

Ah, so many projects that I want to do! I have so many going and I'm having so much fun! I've been making more storage boxes to give to the kids teachers, I finished Westley's bedspread, I started a table runner and I'm quilting a quilt. I bought a walking foot and a darning foot and I've been having a blast figuring them out! Quilting takes some time that's for sure. Give me a few days and I will post some pics of the many projects!

IT'S DONE!!

One down-- one to go! But, it's finally done. I set a goal for myself to finish Addison's blanket for his birthday! It took forever with all the triangles-- it will be a long time before I make another one like this. Westley's is almost done just needs a border along the side. I didn't do triangles for his- just squares. I love making blankets with jeans. I've been stalking a blog I found with so many cute ideas. http://www.crazymomquilts.blogspot.com This box was one of them! So easy to make and perfect to put anything in-- like scrapes of fabric! It has a little vinyl pocket on the front with a piece of card stock to take out and label.
This will not be the only one I make!! I'm busy doing other projects. I started a quilt last night and I'm loving it! I will post pictures of it soon.

Project overload!

It's been awhile since I have posted any projects. Doesn't mean I haven't been working on any! I've told myself that I can't start anything big until I finish the blankets for the boys beds. So, I've done little projects...I made this skirt for me!! It took less than an hour. Super easy. I got to try out my new serger and the automatic buttonhole maker on my sewing machine. Now I won't be scared anymore to make anything with buttons! I had to make two little buttonholes to put the tie through on the skirt. It just might be a summer for skirts because I'm making one of these in every color!

Christmas in April? Yup! I made this wall hanging early because I wanted to see how easy it would go because I'm going to make two more for special people for Christmas. Embroidering the pictures is the only part that takes a while and that can be done while watching T.V.

Okay- this little quilt took me a while to get used too. But, it has grown on me and I really like it. I usually don't pick these colors but I had them because they had come in a cute little package. I like the browns and greens and oranges. It still needs to be quilted together which I'm going to try out on my own. It's not very big--more of a decorative quilt.

So, if you don't hear from me for a bit it's because I'm following my rule and only working on the boys blankets, which are both more than halfway done.

Her Little Black Dress!

Sydney had this onesie when she was just a few months old and since I thought it was so cute I bought one in a bigger size. If you can't see it, the front says "This is my little black dress". Now that she can wear it I decided to "dress" it up a little bit. It's actually pretty tricky sewing a gathered piece of material onto a onesie. I had to draw a line around it and then pin. I liked using a onesie though because it covers up her diaper so it's not all you see as she crawls away.
I did make another t-shirt dress today for her as well. The shirt is navy blue and the skirt is red with white stars. I made the skirt longer than the pink one so she'll be able to wear it still in a few months. It will be perfect for the fourth of July. I'm not going to post a picture of it yet because it's not all the way finished. Still need to put some little stars on the front.

A Dress and a Bag!

Like I've said before- sewing for my little Sydney is way too much fun! While I was at the fabric store the other day I found this cute pink fabric and couldn't decide what to do with it (like I need a reason to buy it!) I had a flashback from my childhood when my mom made my sisters and I a dress out of a t-shirt. I sewed a piece in half, so I wouldn't have to hem, gathered it and sewed it on. This is where I think a serger would of come in handy... I might put something on front of the shirt, but that's for another day! As soon as I get another chance, I'm off to Target to get some more t-shirts! Super easy- took about 15 minutes! Also finished today--- I found this pattern for this bag in the April issue of the McCalls quilting magazine. It's a good size bag and you can never have to many bags! Think I might have to make another in different colors! Ah, so many projects, so little time!

Another Dress!

Sewing for my little girl is becoming way too fun! My 8 year old was the guinea pig when she was little and I was learning to sew. Sydney can actually wear the things I make now! I love the skirt of this dress. It was really easy to make and didn't take too long. My only change would be be putting in a shorter zipper- what baby needs a 12 inch zipper? I will probably make this dress again when she's older. It will be cute to see her walking around in it.

Simplicity pattern #3512

For My Sis!

This blanket I made for my sister Aimilee for her bridal shower gift. The pattern is a Turning Twenty Again. I tied it instead of quilting it. It can be her snuggle on the couch blanket!

Got Jeans?

I love making blankets out of jeans. So, if you have any old jeans that you need to toss- toss them my way! I've made a few so far. This one I made for myself with old black jeans with some blue jeans mixed in. These blankets are great for picnics and to take to the beach! You can use whatever size squares you like, the back I just used a black sheet and folded it over to the front to make a border and then tied the whole thing! Easy and fast.This is a preview of the boys new blankets for their beds. Each square has a denim triangle and a red triangle. It's taking me forever to finish these! (mostly because I keep starting other projects) Someday they will have them on their beds-- hopefully before they move out!
I have forgotten to post my next two quilts. The first is my Hearts In Bloom quilt. It turned out pretty cute. Each heart has a blanket stitch around it and the flowers are embroidered on. The busiest part were the little hearts around the border. They took awhile-- a few nights of T.V watching!

This quilt is probably my favorite so far. It's my Americana quilt that goes nicely on my red couch! It's nice and comfy too! I added the stars around the border- again with a blanket stitch while watching a few nights of t.v.!

So, if you don't hear from me soon, it's because I'm busy trying to complete the boys blankets! And, I'm serious about your old jeans!!

Two Dresses

The first dress I ever made was for Morgan when she was a baby. It had no buttons, no zipper and no sleeves. Just a little sundress that had a tie in the back. Little by little I have gotten brave and tried new things. Sleeves are easy, buttons take some practice and zippers aren't my favorite but they get done.

I already posted this dress on my other blog. The pattern I used was McCall's #M5791. It was pretty easy, just took alot of time. The whole dress is lined so it felt like I made two dresses. It is supposed to have little undies but for some reason I didn't buy enough material. I figured it was long enough that we didn't need them. This dress was from a Simplicity pattern #2991. It's a so easy pattern. I had it cut out months ago and then got into other projects (something I need to stop doing!) I figured I should sew it together before it got to small for Morgan to wear. It's a good thing-- I could only put in a little hem because she's grown. She loves it though. The only thing I had to do different was line the sleeves so they wouldn't "bug" her. I was actually going to use a red ribbon but when I put the pink one next to the black and white-- I loved it! I have some more of this material, I think I'm going to make Sydney a matching one.
On to the next project! Something for me-- maybe?!

A work in progress!

So, I have decided to start another blog. This one will be all about the many projects I'm working on or have completed. This blog is a work in progress so far so please hang in there with me!

To start with:

This is a flannel blanket that I made for my cousin after she had a baby. It's two pieces of flannel sewed together using a winged needle on the sewing machine. The winged needle makes bigger holes to do the crocheting. Use a paper plate to round the edges. Using a 7/1.65MM hook and 100% crochet cotton start anywhere on the blanket and single crochet in each hole all the way around. *Chain 3, 2 double crochet in same hole. Skip 2 holes- Slip stitch (sl st), chain 3, repeat from * This purple quilt was a gift for my sister. The pattern is a Turning Twenty Again. Very easy to make and fun to piece together.
This is another Turning Twenty Again (I must like this pattern) I let my kids pick out twenty fat quarters- they don't need to match. This quilt was fun to do because of all the different colors. It's their t.v watching quilt. I just tied it.


This white quilt is a Wal-mart quilt of the month. They have the pattern for free and most of the time they have the fabric to go along with it. This one is super easy. The pattern actually showed a black background- I didn't like! My mother in-law quilted it for me and it looks fantastic. I actually auctioned it off at a Relief Society Enrichment Night.
